Polarization-based Reflection Parameters Estimation

Real Image Synthesized Image
We developed a method to estimate the reflection parameters of the object surface such as object color and surface roughness by decomposing the specular reflection component and the diffuse reflection component by using the polarizer.
Object shape is obtained by laser range sensor. We separate the specular reflection component image and the diffuse reflection component image by using the polarizer set in front of the light source and the camera. Diffuse reflection is represented by Lambertian reflection model, and specular reflection is represented by Torrance-Sparrow reflection model. We estimate the albedo of the object surface from shape data, light source direciton, and the diffuse reflection component image. Also, we estimate the reflection parameters of Torrance-Sparrow reflection model from shape data, light source direction, and the specular reflection component image. Rendered image with estimated parameters is almost same to the real image.
